Policy-Based Management with NogaLogic

One of the main goals of best-practices information management is the enforcement of appropriate policies that cover the use, access, distribution and storage of data.

Unfortunately, it can be very time-consuming to create and implement these policies—and the results are often uncertain.  In the typical IT environment, policies are often implemented in a very fragmented manner.  Rules and controls are separately defined and implemented for each repository and/or content format. And the effectiveness of those rules and controls winds up depending on whether users actually use the right filename conventions and store their documents in the right repositories.

NogaLogic overcomes these problems by making policy-based information management both far simpler and much more effective.  With NogaLogic, you can:

  • Globally define policies for the management, security and storage of all unstructured information across your organization
  • Base policies on the business context of targeted files—such as topical content or business unit—rather than just file formats or filenames
  • Automate virtually any type of data management or governance process
  • Quickly ascertain the effectiveness of policy definition and execution
  • Easily modify policies as necessary to adapt to changing business and regulatory requirements

Creating policies with NogaLogic is very easy. You simply select the type of content you want to target with your policy, based on its business context—such as any file containing information on your top ten customers. Then, with a couple of clicks, you define the policy you want to apply to this content.  For example, you can create a policy that migrates all files containing information related to your top ten customers to a new location for DLP fingerprinting.  Then you’re done.  NogaLogic will automatically seek out all targeted content across your environment and apply all appropriate polices to it.  You don’t have to write a bunch of separate rules, invoke any arcane pattern matching techniques, or worry about semantic nuances such as the difference between the name “Brown” and the color “brown.”

The policies you create with NogaLogic can be automatically applied to any new or updated business data as soon as it is created—wherever it is stored and whatever filename it is given—to ensure ongoing compliance and enforcement of corporate standards.
